FALL CLOSET REFRESH 2025

A Fresh Start for Fall
Simple strategies to edit, organize, and enjoy your closet this season.

Fall is in the air—which means cozy sweaters, crisp mornings, and the perfect excuse for a closet refresh! As new styles hit the stores, now’s the time to give your wardrobe some breathing room and set yourself up for stress-free mornings. Here are my favorite tips to make the switch simple and fun:

STEP 1: DECLUTTER & DONATE

Let’s be honest… nobody loves this step, but it’s the most freeing! Give yourself permission to part with the pieces you didn’t wear, don’t fit, or are just ready for retirement. Think of it as making space for the clothes you actually love.

✨ Pro Tip: Keep a bag handy and drop off donations right away. Gently worn items get a second life—and you get instant space back.

STEP 2: SAY “SEE YOU LATER” TO SUMMER

Pack up the tanks, shorts, and swimsuits until next year. Out of sight, out of mind means you’ll be able to focus on what really works for the current season.

While you’re at it, edit as you go:

  • Do you still like it?

  • Does it fit?

  • Is it worn out?

Answering these questions now saves you time when summer rolls around again.

STEP 3: SHOP SMART FOR FALL

Who doesn’t love a few new pieces when the seasons change? Before you swipe your card, make a list of what you really need. Maybe it’s a pair of boots, maybe it’s an extra-cozy cardigan. A plan keeps your closet intentional (and your budget happy).

✨ Remember: Not every trend has to make its way into your wardrobe—choose what fits your style and lifestyle best.

STEP 4: EMBRACE “SWEATER WEATHER” (IN STAGES)

In Northeast Ohio, we still get those in-between days. Start with layering tees and light jackets now, and save the chunky sweaters and heavy coats for November.

✨ Quick Tip: Add a reminder to your calendar so you don’t forget to swap heavier pieces in later.

STEP 5: ORGANIZE WITH STYLE

Once you’ve decluttered and made room, it’s time to fine-tune your system. A few smart tools can make your closet feel brand-new without a full remodel:

  1. Drawer dividers – Perfect for keeping socks, tees, and smaller items in check.

  2. File folding – Marie Kondo was right: it saves space and helps you see what you own.

  3. Right-sized hangers – Yep, hangers come in petite, standard, and XL. Using the right size keeps clothes from stretching or dimpling.

  4. Valet hooks – Great for planning outfits or keeping extra hangers handy.

  5. A touch of fun – Swap drawer knobs, try sparkle hangers, or add peel-and-stick wallpaper for a mini closet glow-up.
